Rocket Jamboree
Rocket Jamboree Event Budget Donation
We need your help!
It was great to hear everyone had a great weekend at Rocket Jamboree.
With all the changes, fixes and upgrades we need help balancing the budget so
we can do it again next year.
Please use the donation button below to help reduce the event loss of $3000.
That's about $10 per participant.
Thank you,
Mike Gentile

We are currently $1,380.00 in the red.
What is it?
Rocket Jamboree is a weekend event for Scouts to
launch solid-fuel model rockets in a safe and legal environment. Hosted
the second weekend of October since 2000 by the Tres Ranchos district
of the San Francisco Bay Area, it is open to all registered scouts in
California BSA units.
The Saturday event is for Boyscouts, Seascouts, Venture Scouts, Varsity Scouts

and
second year Webelos attached to a troop. All participants build and
fly the same rocket kit in six contest events using "F-size" single-use
solid rocket motors. Scouts may participate in Space Exploration merit
badge classes.
The Sunday events are open to Cubscouts as well as the older scouts. These events allow Cubscouts to
fly model rockets with age appropriate motor sizes from "A" through "D" (older scouts through "G"). To
reduce wait times, this year we are switching to two half-day events,
and each event will cap registration so that wait times will be
reduced.
When is it? October 8th and 9th 2011
Where is it?
In Livermore, California. See the Directions and Maps
What should we wear?
All these events are uniformed events, each participant must wear the
official field uniform of their unit. Registered adult leaders are to
wear their uniforms as well. As this is an outdoor event, jackets or coats, gloves
and other appropriate clothing. Hiking boots are recommended,
as the event takes place on a farmer's field.
What should we bring?
Your fully assembled model rocket(s). For Sunday events, motors and
ignitors for the rockets (you'll need about three motors and ignitors per rocket). Chairs to sit in. There is no
natural shade on the field, so shade pop-ups are popular, but bring
stakes as gusty winds can destroy these. Water, sunscreen, hats with
brims (allow you to track rockets up into bright skies), glue and small
tools to repair and reload models. You must supply a volunteer to assist the staff with crowd management and safety for each 10 scouts that you register
A snack bar is provided on-site with economical lunch options as well
as drinks and snack foods. Plan on having lunch on-site!
How do I...
- Have an Adult Leader or parent from your unit (that can pay with a credit or debit card) follow the
registration link.
- They will need the names and contact information for all of the participants and whether they want a neckerchief and/or a hotdog meal deal. (see
data collection form)
- For the Saturday event, they will
need to know if each participant already has a rocket, and whether they want to do night launches.
- Build the Rocket Kit?
-
Directions for assembly of the AIRSPIKE model rocket (used in the Saturday event)
-
Directions for assembly of the payload section used for egg launch event on Saturday.
- Boyscouts, 2nd year Webelos attached to a troop, Venture scouts, Varsity Scouts and Sea Scouts are welcomed to a build session at which they can build their AIRSPIKE rocket.
This year it is 9/21/11 at the SFBAC council office (1001 Davis St. San Leandro) at 6pm.
For the AIRSPIKE build-out you need to bring:
- newspapers to cover the tables,
- your kit,
- cyanoacrylate (CA) "super" glue,
- hobby knife,
- small cutting board,
- ruler,
- pencil
- and 100-120 grit sandpaper.
- Cubscouts should use Den meetings to assemble and decorate their rocket kits. Denleaders may attend the build session with an extra kit to prepare for their meetings.
- Paint the Rocket?
- The Rocket parts can be painted before assembly or afterwards.(many of the smaller rockets that the hobby stores sell come fully decorated.)
- You may use brush-on model paints, or (under adult supervision) spray paints.
- Spray painting should be done outdoors in an area where overspray will not harm anything.
- Keep from losing my rocket?
- Saturday: Make sure that your Saturday rocket has its assigned rocket number decal applied. This will allow us to trace the rocket back to its owner.
- Sunday: Place an adhesive backed return address label on your model rocket. Add a telephone number (preferably for a cell phone that will be on-site).
- Get another person to help you visually track your rocket each and every time you launch. This can be a parent or another relative, or a unit leader.
They should only be trying to track one rocket at a time. They need to keep their eyes on it during its entire flight so that if you lose sight of your
rocket, they can help you to recover it.
- Continue if my rocket crashes?
- You can attempt to repair the rocket at our repair station. There should be staff on hand to guide you.
- On Saturday, you may be able to borrow one of our loaner rockets.
- On Sunday, you can ask your unit leader if they have another rocket that you can fly.
- You can buy another rocket at our on-site rocket store.
- NO REFUNDS!
No refunds will be given for any reason after the close of registration on October 5. Weather may cause a relocation and/or rescheduling of this event.
Money collected during registration is used to purchase rocket kits, motors, supplies, prising and food.
Failure to participate in the events will not get you a refund.
